In 2013, MTV teamed up with COVERGIRL to create a platform where fans can share their selfies or group shots with friends on Instagram and Twitter by using the hashtag #covermoment. Aside from user-generated content, the #CoverMoment website also features beauty tricks, fashion tips, and relevant advertisements.

MTV site administrators are able to curate hash-tagged submissions using social media aggregation tool, Mass Relevance (now called Spredfast). Shift Lab crafted a Ruby on Rails application which consumes and caches data from the Mass Relevance API and presents it to end-users via mobile-first, responsive templates, streamlined to look great on any device.
